Slash your gas charges
Slash your gas charges
Energy efficiency and trimming gas use is important to us all in present-day times. Gas charges seem to be forever on the rise and it is therefore also helpful to make better use of the energy you buy. Your gas boiler may be accounting for up to one half of your total energy consumption. To help you we have listed below some quick advice to cut your heating bills.
Study where you are using boilers :
If you have a spare bedchamber that is not being used turn off the gas heating system metal radiator in the room. There are no drawbacks in not heating rooms which are not used, but there is an advantage in reducing the energy costs to heat your home. Also close the door to these rooms when not in use.
Prefer the boiler in preference to using a fire :
If the room needs to be warmer use thermostatically manipulated metal radiator valves and increase the temperature setting. If you think about it the structure of a fire incorporates a chimney which allows heat to escape to the outside, modern central heating systems are much more cost-efficient in heating your home than using an electric fire.
Use insulation to stop draughts
As chilled draughts blow into your home money passes out in the opposite direction. Doors are often areas where chilled air leaks in so use approved entrance door insulation. Block gaps in entrance door and windows with a foam based sealant. If you live in an aging home you might be astonished how often these gaps occur. If you are careful and use a wax candle flame you can detect where drafts are in a room.
Put on a sweater and warmer clothing :
If you are reaching to turn up the heating thermostat stop and think whether it could be better to put on some additional clothing. Maintaining a 1 degree decrease on the thermostat can save up to 10% on your heating charges.
Make good use of your drapes :
The sun is very effective at heating your home in the wintertime, when shining, if you keep the drapes opened to allow it in. At night as the outside temperatures drop a lot of heat can leach out through your windows. Drapes can be an extra form of insulation and this time and trim heat loss if they are shut, you can save a considerable amount of money over time with this method. The heavier your drapes the greater for providing this extra layer of insulation.
guidance around the home :
You must insulate your heating boiler hot water tank if you have one. Hot water will rapidly cool down unless maintained in an insulated tank.
Radiators warm the wall at the rear of them and this heat loss can be cut if you put silver foil at the rear of the radiators.
